5 Tips A Guest Blogger Should Know

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

Being a guest blogger is very beneficial for you and your business and for the blog owner. Not only will you increase your exposure and get more traffic, but you will also get inbound links.

Before you become a guest blogger, here are five tips you should follow.

Research
Research the blogs you are interested in or you want to become a guest blogger on. Get a feel for what the blog is about, get to know the blog owner and see what their writing style is like, read the blog posts and comments. Look for posts or categories that are the most popular. This way you can get an idea of the kinds of topics that their target market is looking for.

Network
You can save a lot of time researching if you’re networking with other bloggers. Many times bloggers who are looking for guest bloggers will ask their fellow blogger friends or people they respect and trust first than to seek out a stranger.

Proposal
When you pitch your proposal to a blog owner provide as much details as possible. Simple details like how you can format the blog post so they can just copy and paste it to their blog will make a difference especially if they don’t plan to give you guest access to their blog. Convenience is important in this type of situation.

Make sure you back it up with proof of your writings or blog posts. Remember it’s not what’s in it for you, but what you can do for them as a guest blogger. What knowledge or topic of expertise can you provide for their blog?

Take it a step further and attach a sample blog post. From your research, you should be able to find a topic on their blog they haven’t covered yet. This is a good idea because the blog owner can get a feel for your writing style or voice and they can determine if you would be a good fit.

Write Good Blog Posts
When you’re a guest blogger always write your best. It’s a poor reflection of you if you write crappy blog posts and it’s disrespectful to the blog owner. Know exactly what you’re allowed to do and then do it well.

The last tip a guest blogger should follow is to promote their guest posting to social networking and social bookmarking sites, on their own blog or website. This benefits greatly for both parties to get more traffic, get new blog readers and an opportunity for you to become a regular guest blogger.

more blogging information?

i asked about blogging sites the other day and got some good answers. thank you. Specifically i looked at clearblog and I liked the way it looked. However, I did not see a place on it for a new blogger to register. Also can you make money with that one, just on the wild chance that someone might actually want to read it? Because they didn’t say anything about that, they just said they look for good writing. Another question, if you start with one site, can you move your blog to another one later on?

It used to be that Bloggers were rare and now all of a sudden everybody’s a blogger. The internet is flooded with pointless rants and raves. How is anybody supposed to filter out the nonsense and read what needs to be heard. How am I supposed to get my blogs out there? Is there something new that people are doing to replace blogging?

I was looking at their website, but I don’t think that TypePad offers anything different from those free blogging websites, such as Blogger and WordPress. So what (if anything) am I missing?? THANK YOU!
